Words With K and V

K and V are the only five-point letters in WyldTyle. Each sits on a single face of the thirty-face consonant die, so you will see roughly one of each per game, and what you do with it matters. This page collects the words that use both, and the highest scorers that use either.

Words with both K and V

Only 78 playable words contain both letters. They are a curiosity more than a target, since landing a K and a V on the same board with a word that fits both is a rare event. But VODKA, KNAVE, KNIVES, VIKING, and INVOKE are common enough words that it is worth knowing the option exists.

The small number after each word is its WyldTyle score with no wild tiles. Letter values are on the scoring guide.

The top-scoring K words

K is the more useful of the two. It combines with common letters in the -CK, -NK, -SK, and -LK endings, and it starts plenty of ordinary words. The forty below are the highest scoring K words of any length.

The top-scoring V words

V is harder to place. English words almost never end in V, and it rarely sits next to another consonant. It nearly always wants a vowel on each side: -AVE, -IVE, -OVE. The forty below are the highest scoring V words.

Placing a five-point letter

When a K or V arrives, the temptation is to hold it for a big word. Resist that. The letter is worth 5 points wherever it goes, and it is only worth 5 points if the word around it ends up valid. The right question is not "where would this score most?" but "where is this most certain to be part of a finished word?"
