Reminders, a turn timer, and matches that keep moving
A multiplayer match only works if everyone keeps playing. Until now, one quiet opponent could leave a match waiting forever. Matches now have a nudge, a way out, and a clock.
Remind a friend
Once a match has been waiting on someone for a few hours, a Remind button appears on the match page. It sends them a notification that you're waiting on their move. It can be used once a day per match, so nobody gets pestered.
A three-day turn
Each turn now has three days. After two, the player whose turn it is gets a notification that they have one day left, and the match page tells them too. If the third day passes, they forfeit and drop out. In a two-player match the other player wins; with three or four, the rest play on. A final trade left untouched for three days isn't a forfeit: that board is simply scored as it stands.
The match page and the home page show how long each match has been waiting, so you can see which ones are stuck.
Leaving a match
You can leave a match from the bottom of its page. It counts as a forfeit, the same as running out of time. If you started a match and nobody has accepted yet, you can call it off instead.
Invites that don't hang
If one person declined an invite, the match used to wait forever for everyone to accept. Now it starts as soon as everyone has answered, with whoever said yes. If nobody answers within three days, the invite lapses and the match starts with the players who accepted, or is called off if that's only you.
Your turn, right away
When the "your turn" notification arrives, the board you have open now switches to your turn straight away, instead of on its next check a few seconds later. The same goes for the Up next list on the home page, which also updates itself while you're looking at it. This works in the apps and in the browser, with no app update needed.
